In my life so far, I would regard this experience to be the best thing I have ever done. The history of the Roman empire and the city of Rome itself has fascinated me ever since I was a little boy. To have the opportunity to spend time touring Rome and the surrounding hill towns with some excellent and well known historians I was enthralled with the mass concentration of historical structures (existing or in ruins). Much of the trip was spent imagining what was once occupying the ground we were standing on.
It was through this study abroad that focused on ancient roman architecture that I felt a strong draw towards historic preservation. This experience brought me to a closer understanding and desire to focus on the preservation of our existing historic building fabric.
